The perfect cozy getaway in the mountains

The perfect cozy getaway in the mountains

You may know the Rocky Mountains of being synonymous with Lake Louise and that picture perfect postcard moment, or maybe have just been watching Yellowstone and are craving some wide open spaces and crisp air. So trust us, THIS is the answer to that craving.

As someone who is born and raised in Calgary I have spent a lot of time in the mountains and wanted to highlight one of my favourite spots, The Post Hotel in Lake Louise (where we did our most recent Prairie Snow shoot!) and other must-dos for a mountain trip & some outfit inspo featuring Prairie Swim!

If you are coming from elsewhere in the world, I’d recommend flying into the Calgary airport and renting an car- one that fits ski gear and can handle icy roads.

You definitely want to stay near a ski hill (Lake Louise & Sunshine are 2 of the main ones) and I would recommend at least 2 days at Lake Louise, which is about 2 hours away. I love the Post Hotel & Spa since its close to the mountains and has these amazing private cabins with views of the mountains. It also has a beautiful pool & spa which is essential after a ski day (especially for me since I am not the most graceful skier, I will absolutely need a massage after)

The cabins have actual wood fireplaces which make for the perfect cozy aprés ski vibes and they have an incredible wine list as well. This is the perfect place to stay for a girls weekend or something a little more romantic (cough cough, ask for a weekend here for valentines day!)

Dinner at the Post is also incredible (I’d recommend a reso) and even Condé Nast Traveler’ named it among the “Best Food in the Americas! They also have a more casual restaurant on site called the Outpost if you are looking for something more casual.

I’d recommend a day in Banff or Canmore as well- if you eat meat, especially red meat (I mean, when in Alberta?) I suggest a dinner at Chucks Steakhouse, and get a couple of cocktails and the tableside ceaser salad to go with your steak. If you don’t eat meat, recommend Nourish Bistro for incredible vegan dishes, or Where the Buffalo Roam in Canmore for some good food and live music.

On the way back to YYC, I’d book a yoga class at Wildheart in Canmore as skiing is something you may not do often it’s key to get a good stretch in after.

Hope to see you on the slopes soon!!
